A project to build biomethane plants is being developed alongside modern farms. Biogas is a type of renewable fuel made from food, agricultural waste and manure. This gas is particularly promising for reducing energy dependence on other countries.
Biomethane plants are planned to be built next to large farms because of their convenient infrastructure. Biomethane plants will produce gas from cattle manure, as well as from waste from grain processing. The first of five biomethane plants is already under construction at a farm in Alksniupiai, Radviliškis district. It will be connected to a gas pipeline that provides natural gas to domestic and other consumers.
The largest biomethane plant is planned to be built next to Agrokoncernas GDP’s deep grain processing plant in Kuršėnai. The project will involve a total investment of around €300-400 million over five years.
Biomethane plants not only address energy challenges, but also help solve the problems of managing, collecting and disposing of waste from the animal and food industries. The Agrokoncerno Group focuses on synergies between businesses to ensure efficient solutions and sustainable use of resources.
