“AgroITC, the Innovation and Research Centre belonging to the Agrokoncerno group of companies, celebrates its 5th birthday. It is the only private research centre of its kind in the Baltic States to be awarded an international quality certificate.
Speaking about the start of the activities, Edgaras Šakys, Director of Agrokoncernas, was pleased that the team of three people has been expanding year by year, and this year there are already ten professionals working in the Centre. The scale of research and trials has also increased dramatically, from 1,000 to 3,000 plots where different crops and varieties are grown and tested.
„ And this is not the end. We have big plans and we are happy that the work of our team is appreciated not only in Lithuania but also abroad. Our research unit also carries out commissioned studies, and its many recommendations are used by some of the country’s most innovative farmers. This is what sets our Group apart, as we continuously and purposefully invest in science“, said E. Šakys.
Arnas Radzevičius, Commercial Director of Agrokoncernas, who at the time was in charge of the Agro Precision Technology Centre, recalled the first sowing in the test fields and laughingly admitted that the task was not easy.
However, the team was soon joined by a professional in her field, Dr. Eglė Petraitienė. The scientist, who has led the Innovation and Research Centre since its inception, was quick to praise her team.
„We often work without working hours to achieve our goals. The nature of our work is such that we have a very capricious partner – the weather – which can be difficult to get along with. But the result, good or bad, for us, is always the result that you can find solutions to help you grow a healthy and high quality crop,” she said.
On future plans, Dr. E. Petraitienė assured that the pace will not slow down. Next year, the number of research fields will be doubled.
